Surf Lodge - Nicaragua
|
 |
Los Cardones Surf Lodge is an ecotourism destination located on Nicaragua’s Pacific coast directly on the
beach. It is an excellent location for surfers as well as for those looking for a quiet beach holiday. For the surfer this is one of Central America’s best locations. The beaches are exposed to both
SW and NW swells, making the surf very consistent. An epic left point break, a right reef break and excellent beach breaks
can be expected all year long. All surf spots are right in front of the lodge or within walking distance and there is absolutely
no crowd; the guests of Los Cardones are usually the only surfes around. The lodge rents surf boards for $15.00 per day and
depending on the location on the beach, the surfing is good for all levels of surfers. | |

Accommodations at Los Cardones consists of individual beach bungalows. Each bungalow
has one room and a wide terrace under a thatched palm roof and its own private bathroom with shower and sink. The bungalows
are furnished with comfortable beds, mosquito nets, night tables, lounge chairs and, of course, hammocks. The bungalows do
not have electricity. Compost toilets are a short walk away.
The
restaurant and longe are under two tropical Nicaraguan Ranchos. From here the guest enjoys the view of the surf, a fresh
ocean breeze and of course the food. The restaurant serves gourmet cuisine made with the freshest local products. The house specialty
is a fillet of snapper or snook, battered in a Mediterranean sauce and grilled on wood fire. Fine vegetarian plates are
always available and the deserts will be an indulging experience, to be enjoyed with flavorful Nicaraguan coffee.

Things To Do
For those interested
in doing some exploring, the area around Cardones offers many opportunities. Visitors can enjoy kilometers of undeveloped beaches for beach combing, diving, swimming,
surfing and fishing. A small ocean lagoon is created at low tide at the nearby beach of San Diego offering great snorkeling
and wading. The Los Cardones Lodge is preserving 7 acres of our tropical dry forest for wildlife observation. The mangroves
are home to typical species of the wetland Pacific of Nicaragua, such as black crab hawks, great herons, aigrettes, caimans. Visitors
can also explore the immediate surroundings of Los Cardones on a 2km trail that runs along the San Maquado Creek to the basaltic
pools then through the riverbed lined with viscoyol palms, along a cattle ranch and to a luxurious plantain plantation in
the forest.
Horseback riding is another
option. Local guide Isael Gutierrez organizes horseback riding tours. He charges $12.00 per person for a 2 hour tour. For those that like to fish, snooks, pompanos, snappers, maquerels, parrot
fish can be caught right
from shore
